Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Johnny Rutherford is shown in this beautiful bright-yellow painting during a pit stop in his Chaparral 2K just before winning his third and last Indy 500 in 1980. Jim Hall's new Pennzoil-sponsored car won Indy its first time out.
The Cosworth-powered Chaparral 2K was a USAC ground effects car which was designed by Brit. John Barnard. After winning the 1980 Indianapolis 500, Rutherford and the Chaparral made two more attempts at Indy with the 2K in 1981 and 1982 and finished a respectable 5th and 12th, making the win in 1980 the last for Rutherford and Chaparral.
Artist Gary Pidgeon created this acrylic on canvas work in the 1980s and it has been adorning his studio ever since. Becoming quite attached to it, Gary was persuaded to share it with the public and offer a small number of giclees to the world. Owen Art Studios is proud to produce and represent the artist with this striking work of historic motorsports art.
The art is also available in its full-size as a canvas giclee that measures 6-feet wide. We ship it worldwide. Call or email us for details.
Only 100 giclees of this art were produced for worldwide sale.
