More -- Over the years we've watched the Italian phenomenon dominate the ranks of the 125, 250 and 500cc classes of world competition. With the new millennium and the change to the big 990cc 4-stroke machines, he again dominated the class in 2002 riding Honda's unique 5-cylinder RC211V. After 5 World Championships -- three back-to-back with Honda -- the ultimate sportsman decided to quit Honda and ride a slower bike -- just to spice things up. His first year on the Yamaha YZR-M1 brought another World Championship in 2004 -- proving that he really was "that good." A repeat performance with the Yamaha in 2005 resulted in his 7th World Championship. In 2006 during his first "off year" he narrowly lost the Championship to former Honda teammate, American prodigy, Nicky Hayden.
