From the Owen Art Studios' exclusive classic-vintage photo collection, this historic black and white picture of auto racing from the 1970s has been beautifully restored and enhanced.

The year is 1970 at Sebring's 12-hour endurance auto race. The driver is actor Steve McQueen in his Porsche 908/2. We see McQueen seconds before he swings into the fast right-hander, exiting the old 4,700-foot runway straight. Close behind in Porsche 917s are Jo Siffert and Pedro Rodriguez.

Steve McQueen and co-driver Peter Revson (of the Revlon cosmetics family) entered the 3-litre Porsche in the 12 Hours of Sebring in March of 1970 and were involved in one of the closest finishes in the history of the race. The little Porsche was passed by the 5-litre Ferrari of Mario Andretti at the end, and had to settle for 2nd overall. McQueen did pretty well considering his under-powered 908, his amateur driving status, and his physical condition – left foot in a cast from a motorcycle accident.

The car was later converted into a camera car for McQueen's cult-classic movie "Le Mans." With a camera mounted in the front and the rear, the car participated in the 1970 June Classic and actually finished 9th in the race, despite having to come in often for film changes.

Siffert's co-driver in the Sebring race was Brian Redman. Rodriguez's co-driver was Leo Kinnunen. Other famous drivers in the Sebring race were: Tony Adamowicz, Richard Attwood, Ronnie Bucknum, Francois Cevert, Luigi Chinetti, Jr., Vic Elford, Bert Everett, Nanni Galli, Masten Gregory, Dan Gurney, Toine Hezemans, Jacky Ickx, Gérard Larrousse, Arturo Merzario, Mike Parkes, Chuck Parsons, Sam Posey and Rolf Stommelen.
